Drug Take-Back Program

Unused prescription medications are a safety issue that can lead to accidental overdose and abuse.  Homes with children and elderly are especially vulnerable to the dangers of unused or expired medication.  Unused medications should not be disposed of by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the garbage due to environmental and safety hazards. The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office provides citizens with a safe and responsible means of disposal for unused prescription drugs. Unused prescription drugs may be dropped off at the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office at any time.  The drugs will be destroyed in accordance with federal and state guidelines.

Only unused medications will be accepted.  NO SHARPS/SYRINGES or other medical devices accepted. (Injectable and Syringes are not accepted due to serious potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.)

Due to the resources required for disposal, we can not accept bulk medications from health care providers.
